PRESS RELEASE: Suspect Apprehended

On 04/04/2012 at approximately 5:00 pm, a residence in the 1200 block of CR 1069 in Greenville was broken into.  The home owner came home to find her front door had been kicked in personal belongings had been stolen.  The family found that a shotgun, a motorcycle and a camera had been stolen from their home.  This same residence has been the target of theft in the past and the family decided to install a video surveillance system.  This time, the thieves were caught on camera.  With the video footage, Investigators were able to work together with other area law enforcement agencies to identify the criminals.

On 04/10/2012 at approximately 5:30 pm, Officers with the Greenville Police Department spotted the vehicle seen from the video footage.  The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and as soon as the officers exited their patrol car, the vehicle took off in an attempt to flee from the officers.  The officers chased after the fleeing suspect and the driver crashed into another car at the intersection of Roberts Street and Woodrow Boulevard.  The officers stopped to check on the injured driver and the suspect continued to flee.

Hunt County Sheriff’s Deputy Gene Peoples happened to be in the area at the right place and the right time when he too spotted the suspects vehicle.  The driver continued to flee from Deputy Peoples after turning on his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to get the driver to pull over and stop.  After a brief car chase on the streets of Kayway, Webb, Windy Hill and others, the driver stopped the truck and got out and began to run on foot.  During the foot chase, the driver crashed through a sliding glass door and into a residence in the 2300 block of Rabb Street.

The driver was taken into custody and arrested for the offenses of Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

The driver has not been identified pending formal arraignment.

More charges are pending and warrants are soon to be issued.
