2011 Regional HCSO K-9 Awards

The K-9 members of the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office have been very successful in the “real world” of Narcotics interdiction. Their success has been chronicled by the number of seizures of both narcotics and cash making at least a dent in drug trafficking in Hunt County.  But how would they stack up against other K-9’s? It appears that they would do quite well indeed!

This past week the USPCA (United States Police Canine Association) Region 20 K-9 Trials were held in Conroe, Texas. Region 20 encompasses nearly half of the state of Texas and half of the DFW Metroplex. This is a competition and certification event for Law Enforcement K-9 teams.

These K-9 trials are held yearly in the various regions throughout the United States with 1st and 2nd place teams having the opportunity to advance to national trials held each year. This competition also serves as the certification for each K-9 and handler in their respective roles. Those certifications are Detector Dog (Narcotics), Tracking, Explosives and Patrol Dog (PD1). Here’s how the Sheriff’s Office fared:
